Dr. Ulrich Santa became Managing Director of the public Energy Agency Südtirol – ClimateHouse in 2012. The ClimateHouse (also KlimaHaus – CasaClima) standards and protocols represent an internationally renowned concept that connects sustainability and energy efficiency for buildings, enterprises and municipalities with regional development. Before taking this position, Ulrich Santa has been for seven years the head of the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems and Telematics) Department of an Italian motorway operator. Before he run his own business in the field of software engineering and automation technology, with a particular focus on building technology, monitoring, measurement and control applications. Dr. Santa graduated with a computer engineering degree from the Technical University of Vienna (Dipl.-Ing.).
He received his PhD degree from the BOKU – University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences of Vienna (Dr. nat. tech.), where he worked also as a lecturer for several years (specialization courses in the fields of structural engineering, materials science and laboratory testing, computational mechanics, object-oriented programming). In 2005 Dr. Santa has been granted with the “Klaus Fischer – Innovationspreis für Technik und Umwelt”. He has published over 70 scientific papers as well as numerous other articles within the area of sustainability and energy efficiency. He gained experience in several international research projects. From 1999 until 2003 Dr. Santa has been technical secretary of fib (fédération international du béton) task group 5.1 “Monitoring and Safety Evaluation of Existing Concrete Structure”. In 2015 Dr. Santa has been nominated coordinator of Action Group 9 of the macro-regional EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP), focussing on promoting energy efficiency and the production and use of renewable energy in the Alpine Region.
Dr. Santa is born in 1970 in Bozen/Bolzano, Italy. He speaks German (first language), Italian and English. He is married and has two children. After the abolition of the Board of Directors in 2017, he assumed the position of General Manager of the CasaClima Agency.
